Fostering Free Trade for Continued Prosperity

Millennials have grown up in an era of free trade, equipping us to experience firsthand the many tremendous and positive economic impacts it has provided. And Millennials recognize these benefits. In an April 2017 Pew Research poll, 67% of 18- to 29-year-olds said free trade agreements have been a good thing for the U.S. – and the evidence is overwhelming. With the free trade consensus now seemingly under assault, MPC Fellow Jacob Dubbert and President Jimmy Sengenberger have launched a dynamic project on the subject, covering Millennials and trade, NAFTA and Chinese trade negotiations, the growing trade dispute, and more.

Policy Paper Averting A Trade War With China

International trade has become one of President Donald Trump’s favorite policy areas this year, with the president determined to fulfill his promise to reduce the trade deficit and negotiate better trade deals for the American people. Unfortunately, Trump’s approach to trade resolutions involves unilateral actions and the use of tariffs as the main tool to fulfill his trade agenda – including on China. As the Trump Administration flirts with a trade war with China, Fellow Jacob Dubbert and President Jimmy Sengenberger explore how to address the trade dispute with China in a broad policy paper (Averting a Trade War with China) and a more narrow policy analysis (A Different Approach to Trade with China).
